RS carries out survey of the Korchagin field development facilities

 Jul 19, 2010

Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) carries out survey of the Korchagin field development facilities.

The Korchagin field development facilities include:

  • fixed offshore ice-resistant platform LSP-1;
  • fixed offshore ice-resistant platform LSP-2;
  • single-point mooring with a flexible grip;
  • floating oil storage; subsea pipeline.
Construction of the field development facilities have been executed in compliance with the rules for the classification, construction and equipment of mobile offshore drilling units and fixed offshore platforms, subsea pipelines. Requirements were developed on the basis of scientific research performed by the RS specialists in cooperation with the leading research centres and maritime academies.
The RS specialists took part in the implementation of the project at all stages of design and construction, taking into account features of the future operation site with the special concern for industrial and environmental safety.
The Korchagin field is situated in the harsh ice conditions area which determines the external loads to the offshore facilities. The high-tech equipment of the platform is intended for oil treatment and transportation.
Oil is transported from the field via 58 km long and 300 mm wide subsea pipeline, running on the depth 11 – 20 m, to the single point mooring and the floating storage for the further offloading to tankers.
The floating storage is a 28 000 t dwt double hull oil tanker with an engine and boiler room, accommodation and a helicopter platform.
The single-point mooring makes possible oil offloading from the subsea pipeline to the floating storage and tankers.
The fixed offshore ice-resistant platform LSP-1, being intended for oil production and pumping via the subsea pipeline to the single-point mooring, has been installed on the 11 m depth under the RS survey, the fixed offshore ice-resistant platforms LSP-1, drilling and technological complexes inclusive , and LSP-2, accommodation complex inclusive, are connected with a bridge.
Oil from the Korchagin field will be transported by shuttle tankers. The largest oil tankers, being operated in the Caspian Sea, are constructed to the RS class on the Krasnoye Sormovo shipyard in Nizhniy Novgorod.
The 13 000 t dwt tankers are intended for carriage of oil and petroleum products . The tankers are designed to simultaneously carry two types of cargo; cargo heating is additionally provided for viscous cargoes. In 2009 the UK Royal Institution of Naval Architects included Zengezur, the sixth tanker of the series, in the List of Significant Ships of 2008.
The RS latest experience gained in survey over the shelf development projects revealed considerable scientific, technical and production capabilities in Russia required for hydrocarbon field development. ”RS has vast experience in surveying offshore oil and gas field development facilities. We have implemented the integrated approach to safety and quality control tasks during design, construction and operation of offshore oil and gas facilities, thus providing an integrated package of services that enables the customer to save the time and cuts the costs and ensure the compliance with national and international offshore safety standards”, said the RS Director General Nikolay Reshetov.
The integrated package of services includes classification of the objects, quality control at all stages of offshore oil and gas field development, including design, construction, operation and utilization, industrial safety expertise of field development facilities and certification of the materials and products, being the part of field development facilities.
The integrated approach to the systems providing safety during oil and gas field development is the priority of the RS activity at the continental shelf.
